I'm so glad to meet you!
Purgatoire & Sage was founded and is operated by me, Ashley Kjenaas (hi!). I'm a southern Colorado transplant (stay with me here) originally from northern Minnesota (way north). I grew up and spent my entire life living in small towns, admiring the small business owners for the incredibly hard work they do. When I decided to move, I knew I needed to find a small community that I could sink my roots into. And then, Stonewall and this beautiful area found me.
I moved here to Stonewall in the summer of 2025, with nothing but a couple of Jeep loads worth of stuff and my puppy, Tim, a fox terrier mix I adopted from the shelter. My first day at my new home involved my first ever rattlesnake encounter. And my new neighbor rushing over with a shovel. Welcome to rural southern Colorado.
I have worked in marketing for almost 15 years. I have worked for local newspapers, local advertising agencies, and in-house as a marketer for a handful of businesses here and there, and I've done many side projects for small, local businesses... just like yours, probably. For the last 5 years, I have worked as a marketer in the credit union industry. If you're not a member of a credit union yet, I wholeheartedly recommend you find one and join.
In addition to credit unions though, my heart yearns to help our local businesses around the tri-county area and support our local economies in Trinidad, Weston, Cuchara, La Veta, Waslenburg, and as far as the eye can see in southern Colorado. That is why I'm here. To help you grow your small business here in the Sangre De Cristos.
